Nascido e criado em Grand Rapids, Michigan, Sapp estreou no início dos anos 90, após Keith Staten saiu para o trabalho a solo. Ele gravou os álbuns Encomendado Número 7 e Assuntos do Coração com membros Fred Hammond, Mitchell Jones, Mike Williams, e Karl Reid, após Hammond e Williams saiu tão bem, Sapp registrados último álbum do grupo, o 1996's Love insubstituível.
